How much does EV charger installation cost in Cape Town?
It depends on the charger, the distance from your DB board to the parking spot, and whether your board needs an upgrade. We assess your home and give you a clear, obligation-free quote. A call-out fee applies and is credited to your approved job.
What size EV charger do I need for my home?
A 7.4 kW single-phase wall charger suits most South African homes and electric cars. It adds roughly 35–50 km of range per hour, so most cars are fully charged overnight.
Will a wall charger work with my electric car?
Most electric and plug-in hybrid cars sold in South Africa use the Type 2 connector for home (AC) charging, which is what these chargers use. Tell us your car model and we'll confirm.
Do I need a COC for an EV charger?
Yes. An EV charger is a fixed electrical installation on its own circuit, so it must be installed by a registered electrician and certified with an electrical certificate of compliance.
Can I charge my EV with solar power?
Yes. Solar-ready chargers such as the Victron EV Charging Station can work with a Victron solar and battery system to charge from surplus solar. We'll advise what works with your setup.
Can I charge my car during load-shedding?
Only if your backup system is big enough, and most home inverters aren't sized for a 7.4 kW charger. We normally keep the charger on mains and schedule charging for when power and solar are available.
Do you install EV chargers in complexes and townhouses?
Yes, with body corporate approval. We can assess the parking bay, supply and metering and give you a quote to submit.
